Meet the Dev: My Games and What’s Coming Next

Hi! Nice to meet you.
I’m Bennyka, a solo indie game developer living in Japan.
I live with my husband, daughter, and a little black cat.

I used to work at a console game company, but I quit because I felt empty making games for someone else.
Working at a company is very different from making indie games.
Even if you work hard, the game isn’t yours, and you often don’t have the freedom to create what you really want.

For a while, I had a job unrelated to games.
But one day, an idea suddenly came to me—and my passion for making games came back!
That’s when I decided to become an indie developer.

I used to be a game planner, so I didn’t know much about programming.
I started learning Unity on my own, just enough to build the kind of games I wanted to make.
Art has always been my hobby, so I also create the artwork myself.
Now I’m doing my best to make my dream games come true.

🎮 Games I’ve Released

Good Morning Niwa-kun
An adventure game where you have to wake Niwa-kun in real-time—for 7 days! You literally need to wake up in the morning to wake him up.
Depending on how many times you succeed, the ending of the story changes.
Available on iOS (Japanese only for now).

Samurai Rider
An endless runner game where you ride a motorcycle called “Katana” and defeat creatures known as “Mononoke.”
The idea came from my husband—he once saw a guy riding a motorbike while wearing a hakama (traditional Japanese clothing).
Available on iOS. Currently being localized into English and also planned for Android.

Neko Toss
My daughter always watches me work on my games, and one day she asked,
“Can I have a game too?”
I promised her I would make one.
After I finished “Samurai Rider,” it was a good time to start.
I asked her to come up with ideas and draw the characters.
Now her game is available for free on itch.io!

🌱What’s Next
As I mentioned, I’m finishing up the English localization of Samurai Rider and preparing the Android release.
I’m also thinking about making an idle game filled with cute, fluffy creatures.
And I’m working on a new adventure game concept—still in the outline and concept art stage.
I want to make something that fans of Japanese anime and games will love.
